LIUBOMIR VALIKHNOVSKI SAVED A PATIENT'S LIFE TWICE
The head of the surgical department of the Turiisk district hospital, Honored Doctor of Ukraine Liubomyr Valikhnovski brought back to life the 42-year-old Oleksandr Zhezhko twice. Oleksandr worked on the railway, and that day he bypassed his section of track. The driver did not notice the man, and the train cut Oleksandr in half – cut off both legs at the level of the hips, cut two main arteries, broke bones, and crushed the whole body. Liubomyr Valikhnovski saved his life, although both legs had to be amputated. The surgeon remembered that more than 40 years ago he had to save Oleksandr, when a pumpkin seed got stuck in the boy’s trachea, his heart then almost stopped. Mr. Liubomyr found the trachea and the place where it was necessary to dissect by touch. Fortunately, the child was saved. So the surgeon twice became Oleksandr 's "godfather".
